Many companies and foundations provide awards to girls from low-income families who wish to attend college. This is because nobody should be denied an education just because they cannot afford one. Here are some scholarships that might be of interest to poor girls

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation offers various scholarships to high school and college students. Although most of the scholarships are for Washington residents, some can be used for anyone has financial need. Students must be a U.S citizen with a 3.3 GPA. More information can be found at

The University of North Carolina offers a unique scholarship especially for low-income girls. Single and never married female college students can apply for the Alice McArver Ratchford Scholarship. The Dell Scholars Program offer scholarships to students who have overcome challenges and are motivated to go to college. Students must be able to discuss the hardships they have faced and their desire to achieve goals. Applicants should have future career goals and financial need. Award amounts vary. As you can see, lack of income should not be a reason to not attend college. Many companies provide scholarships to help offset the cost of college so that every girl who dreams of a better life and bright future has all the opportunities they need.
