Scholarships For Girls Only

Women are often overlooked in terms of educational opportunities, particularly when they aspire to craft their skill in a male-dominated field. However, there are many scholarship programs aimed exclusively at girls heading off to college, no matter where their career aspirations lead.

AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF UNIVERSITY WOMEN

This program provides scholarships to women in amounts from $5,000 to $20,000. The goal of the AAUW is to promote the development of women in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math. These scholarships are available for women pursuing either a graduate or an undergraduate degree in these fields.

WOMEN CHEFS AND RESTAURATEURS

WCR provides scholarships to women who are training to go into the field of culinary arts. The purpose of these awards is to encourage women who seek to become professional chefs or restaurant owners. These scholarships provide the funds to the school directly, rather than providing cash to the recipient.

NEW YORK WOMEN IN COMMUNICATIONS FOUNDATION

Women who are studying communications in the areas of NY, NJ, PA and CT may find scholarship help in amounts ranging from $2500 to $10,000. The NYWC has awarded just under $1 million since its creation in 2000. The scholarships are awarded based on financial need, academic achievement, community service and the desire to pursue a degree in the field of communications.

EMPOWERING WOMEN THROUGH EDUCATION

EMERGE, which is the acronym for the organization, is based on demonstrated financial need on the part of women who want to enter high demand jobs in the field of education, particularly in at-risk schools and special education. The recipient is required to agree to complete four years working in low-income schools after graduation. Other stipulations include maintaining a 3.0 GPA, completing certain goal sheets and paperwork on set dates via the TEACH grant website, and agreeing that if you fail to comply with any of the requirements, your scholarship may be converted to a loan, to be repaid after graduation.

TALBOTS CHARITABLE FOUNDATION

The TCF provides 55 scholarships per year to women. There are 5 $10,000 scholarships for women pursuing a Bachelor’s degree, as well as 50 $1,000 scholarships to women pursuing either a Bachelor’s or an Associate’s degree. Potential recipients must have a high school diploma or a GED that was completed within the last 10 years.
